Santa Had a Rough Night
Have you ever heard Santa complain? Never. You’ve never heard Santa complain about how tough his job is, or how much effort it takes to deliver gifts to all the boys and girls around the world. You never hear that because Santa is a mensch. But, here is a rare glimpse of Santa on Christmas morning after he delivered all the toys. Andrea was out on a run, and snapped this picture of Santa, a couple elves and reindeer after coming out of the Franklin County Courthouse and Jail. Heal up, Santa. See you next year!
How to Get Your Family to Exercise With You
My family is a geeky running (and walking) family. Our family vacations have us traveling across the country—even internationally, on occasion—to do full and half marathons together. Heck, our family’s holiday tradition is to invite people over to run 5 miles. This has not always been the case. Years ago, when my kids were in middle and high school, there was no way they would exercise with their parents. Emily even implored me not to do that “stupid walking thing” where her teenage friends might happen to see me. She would certainly die of embarrassment. How could I be so cruel? Times have changed, though. Both kids now embrace fitness and have their own goals and aspirations, which also include races. And when they’re home, they love to get out for a good run with their parents. Although we never pressured the kids, they found running and exercising for the “health of it” on their own. As I mentioned at the GVWC party, you should never underestimate how much of a role model you can be when it comes to living a healthy lifestyle. People pay attention to that. They pay attention to you. It is really cool when it happens within your own family.
This article from the mgbmovement blog presents tips on getting your family to exercise with you. Sometimes, just sometimes, setting a good example may get your family’s attention to get out and sweat with you. Of course, it could take about 10 years. Just be patient.
GVWC Annual Membership Dues Renewal
Your $15 annual membership fee for 2019 is due. If you joined the Club after September 30 this year, you do not need to pay the membership renewal for this year. Mail checks made out to “German Village Walking Club” to 41 W. Frankfort Street, Columbus, Ohio 43206. Thank you for your support. You all make the Club a great success!
GVWC Members and Partners – Footprints and Footnotes
- Congratulations to Jim McVay on his second place finish for his age group at the Columbus Half Marathon in October. Below is Jim’s plaque. Way to be, Jim! How appropriate it is that the title of the plaque is “Limitless”.
- Catherine Nocar tossed a little warmer to us this week as she is down in Florida for the holidays, sporting those ugly Christmas sweater running shoes she purchased at CRC. Bring back some good weather, Catherine!
