About Me

When I was about 48, I started staring down that dreaded milestone of turning 50.  That concerned me; mostly about the way I felt about my health.  I wasn’t feeling the most fit.   I was having problems with a couple discs in my neck, feeling paunchy at my top weight of 183, and I wanted to turn that around.  Fortunately I had help and motivation through my wife Andrea.

Together, we started a journey.  Not a journey that we charted or scripted.  But, one where we  started improving our eating habits and increasing our level of fitness a little bit at a time.  We  tried to be more conscientious about making our workout routines a habit (she is a runner; I transformed into a racewalker–the disc problem in my neck prevented running), and slowly improved our eating habits as well.  SLOWLY.  And, within one year, I lost about 18 pounds!   Believe it not, it wasn’t that hard.  It was pretty easy actually.  Now, 10 plus years later, Andrea and I are still at our ideal weight, continue to learn about health and fitness, and strive to maintain a healthy lifestyle.  It is not about diets and quick fixes.  It is a WAY OF LIFE.

After being in the New Albany Walking Club for 9 years, I recently I started the German Village Walking Club, as Andrea and I moved downtown to do some urban living.  GVWC is a grass roots operations; we are just getting it started, but hope to turn it into a Club where we can empower people to take charge of their health through walking, be competitive when we feel the need, and to engage an urban community in the merits of living a healthy lifestyle.

    Hi!

Congrats on venturing into the world of blogging. I started walking with the New Albany Walking Classic 10k in 2007. I walked 22 races over the next year and a half. Since late 2008, I have slowly transitioned to running and triathlons. I have lost about 50 lbs, and I am working on losing a lot more. I hope your journey continues to be successful!

  2. Hi Ben! Thanks for checking out my blog. I’m so excited to share my perspective and philosophy on taking control of one’s personal health and fitness.

Congratulations on your accomplishments! Losing 50 lbs (so far!) is outstanding. Participating in triathlons is even more impressive. Keep up the good work!

I hope to see you at the 2010 New Albany Walking Classic. Look for me…I’ll be the one in the red ballcap!

Larry, Thank you again for what you did to support me in compleating my first Half Marithon. You was very patient with all of us and most encouraging.
You kept us focused and gave us purpose for what we was striving to acomplish.
I am looking forward to start training for my next Half.
